In an effort to place the need for more efficient protection measures for environmental defenders on the national public agenda, the Ombudsman’s Office presents the Handbook: Protection Mechanisms for Indigenous and Environmental Defenders of the Amazon. It describes regulations in place, functions of each entity involved in the protection of human rights defenders, procedures for the granting personal safety in cases of threats, as well as recommendations to the Executive, Legislative, Judicial, Public Prosecutor’s Office and regional governments.
