On April 21st 2021, Peru adopted Decree 004-2021, creating the Intersectoral mechanism for the protection of human rights defenders. As stated in the first article of the decree:

“The Intersectoral Mechanism for the protection of human rights defenders is hereby created, consisting of the principles, measures and procedures that seek to guarantee the prevention, protection and access to justice of human rights defenders in the face of risk situations that may arise as a consequence of their activities.

The Mechanism, its principles, measures and procedures are contained and developed in the document that, as an annex, is part of this Supreme Decree.”
