On June 27th 2017, the government of Burkina Faso adopted Law No. 039-2017/AN on the protection of human rights defenders. As stated in the first article of the law:
“This law establishes the rules for the protection of human rights defenders in Burkina Faso and determines their responsibilities”.
As of now, Burkina Faso is under the reign of a military junta. The law is therefore not implemented by authorities, thus rendered ineffective.
