In Kazakhstan, a draft law for a national protection mechanism for human rights defenders was developed by civil society actors. The draft law was prepared by Elena Zhigalenok, in collaboration with the Coalition for Law Enactment legal team and concerns the recognition and protection of human rights defenders.

The first signature dates from February 2022 and the last one from February 2023. At the date of this publication (10/02/2023), 356 organisations signed the draft law.
