On May 15th 2015, the state of Honduras officialised the adoption of Decree No. 34-2015 through its publication in the official legislative journal (Official Gazette La Gaceta No. 33.730). As stated in Article 1 of the Protection Law for Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Social Communicators and Justice Operators:
“Recognises the right of everyone, individually or collectively, to promote and seek the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, as stated in the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Defend Human Rights, which includes the full exercise of Freedom of Expression and Access to Justice.”
“The State of Honduras, in enacting the Law and its Regulations, highlights the importance of the work carried out by the protected sectors in the promotion and protection of democracy and the rule of law. Likewise, the situation of vulnerability and risk in which they find themselves, obliging it to create the necessary conditions for them to carry out their work, prevent aggression and adopt suitable protection measures to enable them to carry out their work.”
