The defender of human rights defenders and journalists within the Guatemalan Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office, Ruth Del Valle, carried out a monitoring study on the compliance with and implementation of General Instruction 5-2018 for crimes committed against activists and human rights defenders within the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP).

The objective of this monitoring was to verify that General Instruction 5-2018, which contains the investigation protocol in cases of attacks against human rights defenders and journalists, can be implemented in prosecutorial agencies throughout the country, when there is an attack against a person for their activity, whether as a social communicator or as a human rights defender.
