A critical look at protection mechanisms for human rights defenders in Latin America is a study by Terra de Direitos and Justiça Global on the National Protection Program for Human Rights Defenders, Communicators and Environmentalists (PPDDH) (Programa Nacional de Proteção aos Defensores de Direitos Humanos) in Brazil and 11 state programs implemented.
The study concludes that the protection programme in Brazil was weakened by the policies implemented during Bolsonaro’s administration and remarked the lack of transparency in the federal and state programmes.
The study also includes an analysis of protection mechanisms for HRDs in Mexico, Honduras and Colombia.
